Our diabetes training courses have been written by Mrs Judi Hill, Diabetes Nurse Specialist at University Trust Hospital, Birmingham. We currently offer training that covers:

• Type 1 Diabetes

• Wearable blood glucose monitoring management
• Administration of insulin

Our Cough assist training covers:

• Anatomy and physiology of the respiratory system and the cough reflex
• Reasons for assisted cough and the health issues that may indicate a need for assisted cough
• Complications of cough assist and how to manage them
• Setting up and operate a cough assist device correctly
• Troubleshooting common problems and managing complications

Our Venepuncture training covers:

•  Professional issues in relation to venepuncture (Accountability / consent) 
•  Review of anatomy and physiology  
• Prevention of complications 
• Procedure for Venepuncture using (preferred) system
• Procedure for Venepuncture using ‘butterfly’ needle 
• Specific issues related to venepuncture with the elderly, or those with learning disabilities 
• Review of documentation

Our Tracheostomy training covers:

• Recognise and select appropriate equipment 
• Risks of doing/not doing Tracheostomy care
• Maintenance of client’s dignity throughout procedure

• When suction is appropriate or not

Our Verification of Expected Death training covers:

•  Understand what is an  ‘expected death’ 
•  Appreciate the differences between verification and certification
•  Know the legal issues, documentation and record keeping requirements
•  Demonstrate the correct procedure for detecting the absence of vital signs
•  Be able to discuss the needs of patients and carers in the management of expected death.

Our Supporting someone at the end of their life training covers:

• What is palliative / end of life care.
• Principles of palliative / end of life care
• Starting a difficult conversation and grief.
• Recognise the signs of impending death
• Recognise signs that a person reaching the end of their life may need medication to relieve distressing symptoms.
• Have an awareness of assessments used in end of life care
